Peacocks

The peacocks of Teleleli and the lands around have bodies which never decay, or at least which take far longer to decay than any other matter, and which resist cooking. Furthermore their favourite foods are various herbs which are poisonous to humans, which renders their meat poisonous even if it could be cooked. Thus they are of no use as food, only for their beauty. For this reason owning peacocks is a sign of wealth, and so vain wealthy folk will have as many of them as possible. This, in turn, means that they are very valuable.
